The year 1947 was a big year in the history of Groblersdal with the opening of the Groblersdal Junior High School, as Hoërskool Ben Viljoen was first known, home on its 80 acres of land of which 49.5 acres were already under irrigation.
During 2021, a project, in collaboration with numerous community members, came into being where 14 uncultivated hectares on our school grounds were transformed into a community farm. With the result that we were blessed and privileged to be able to have a harvest of approximately 700 tons of potatoes. These potatoes were chip potatoes planted under contract for McCain where all 14 hectares were under pivot irrigation with water from our respective storage ponds.
During 2024, cotton was planted on the fields for the first time, and we look forward to what this harvest will yield.
