Our Math department is celebrating Pi Day today!
Every year on 14 March (3/14), we celebrate the mathematical constant π (3.14), a number that is essential to understanding circles, geometry, and the universe itself. Pi represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, with an infinite number of digits following the decimal point.
This year, our Math department launched a competition among learners, where learners from grades 8 to 12 had to learn the decimal places of Pi and write them down under test conditions. In each grade, winners were announced, which are as follows:
Grade 8: Lanél Coetzee and Madeeha Sayed (81 decimals)
Grade 9: Thatego Maupa (66 decimals)
Grade 10: Hanru van den Berg (76 decimals)
Grade 11: Candice Moshela (57 decimals)
Overall winner: Gabriella du Plessis (116 decimals)
A special PI severance award was made to Danelle Hall, who wrote down a full 120 decimal places of PI.
